Good design is innovative.
良いデザインは、革新的である。
既存製品の形を真似るものでもなく、単に新奇性のための新奇性を生み出すのでもない。革新の神髄は、製品の機能すべてに明確に見て取れなくてはならない。
現在の技術的発展は、革新的なソリューションを生み出す新たなチャンスを提供し続けている。

Good design makes a product useful.
良いデザインは、製品を有用にする。
製品は使われるために買われる。それは、中心的機能においても付加的機能においても、明確な目的を果たさなければならない。デザインの最も重要な任務は、製品の有用性の効用を最大化することである。

Good design is aesthetic.
良いデザインは、美的である。
製品の審美的側面は、製品の有用性と不可分である。なぜなら、毎日使う製品は、私達の快適な暮らしを左右するからだ。
しかし、美しさを持ちうるのは、うまく考えられたものだけだ。

Good design makes a product understandable.
良いデザインは、製品を分かりやすくする。
それは、製品の構造を明らかにする。さらに良いのは、製品自体に語らせることができる点だ。ベストなのは説明を要しない。

Good design is unobtrusive.
良い製品は、押し付けがましくない。
目的を果たす製品は、道具のようなもの。装飾品でも芸術品でもない。したがって、そのデザインは中立的で控えめで、ユ−ザ−に自己表現の余地を残すものであるべきだ。

Good design is honest.
良いデザインは、誠実である。
良いデザインは、実際以上に製品を革新的に、パワフルに、あるいは価値がありそうに仕立て上げない。守れない約束で消費者を操作しようとしない。

Good design has longevity.
良い製品は、恒久的である。
短期間のうちに時代遅れとなってしまうトレンドを追わない。うまくデザインされた製品は、今日の使い捨て社会における短命のつまらない製品とは大いに異なる。

Good design is consequent down to the last detail.
良いデザインは、あらゆる細部まで一貫している。
何も曖昧であってはならない。デザインプロセスにおける徹底と正確性は、ユ−ザ−への敬意を表す。

Good design is environmentally friendly.
良いデザインは、環境に優しい。
デザインは、安定した環境と分別ある原材料の使い方に貢献するものでなけれはならない。これには、現実の汚染だけでなく、視覚公害と破壊も含まれる。

Good design is as little design as possible.
良いデザインは、できるだけ少なく。
少ない方がよい。なぜなら、その方が本質的な点に集中でき、製品に重要でないものに悩まなくてすむ。純粋さに戻ろう！
簡潔さに戻ろう！
